E3 Durham’s Learn-to-Earn (L2E) model is a unique feature of the program designed to empower entrepreneurs with the knowledge and connections they need to advance their business. Through L2E, entrepreneurs earn credits by engaging in educational activities and building valuable network connections. Those credits can be redeemed for subsidized professional services from carefully selected local Business-to-Business (B2B) providers, also referred to as L2E Providers, giving them access to expert support—at no cost.

Meet Corey Barbour, founder of Barbour Companies and one of E3 Durham's L2E Providers.

Q: What is your deeper “why” behind your work to support entrepreneurs in Durham?

A: Our mission at Barbour Companies was born out of the frustration of having to decline incredible businesses and passionate entrepreneurs—people with great ideas and strong work ethics who simply needed a little help to become fundable. We saw firsthand how access to the right financial strategies and resources could transform businesses and entire communities. That’s why we’re committed to breaking down barriers and ensuring entrepreneurs in Durham have the financial tools they need to build sustainable, thriving businesses. We believe that strong businesses create strong communities, and we’re here to make that a reality.

Q: Tell us a bit about your services and what makes them unique.

A: For over two decades, we’ve specialized in business financing, financial strategy, and fractional CFO services through our signature P3 MethodPrepare, Provide, and Partner.

  • Prepare: We assess financial health, optimize business structures, and ensure funding readiness—including credit repair and strategic planning.
  • Provide: We connect businesses to the right financing solutions, from traditional loans to alternative funding, ranging from $100K to $15M.
  • Partner: We build long-term relationships, offering continued financial guidance, educational partnerships, and expert-led engagements.

What makes us different? We don’t just help businesses get funded—we make sure they stay fundable and financially strong for the long haul. We take a relationship-driven approach, ensuring our clients aren’t just another transaction but a partner in long-term success.

A: Right now, we’re especially excited about the growth of collaborative entrepreneurship in Durham. We’re seeing more businesses partnering, sharing resources, and building ecosystems that support economic mobility. We also love seeing new small business accelerators and funding initiatives, particularly those focused on minority-owned businesses.

At Barbour Companies, we believe money isn’t everything, but it’s in everything—meaning financial literacy and access to capital are crucial for success. Seeing more entrepreneurs gain the knowledge and funding they need to thrive is what keeps us motivated and excited for the future of Durham’s business community.
