Rich Gilliam, also known as Richnovated, is the kind of entrepreneur who blends technical brilliance with heartfelt mission—and it's making waves. As the founder of STEM Plug, Rich is on a mission to build "the next generation of innovators," and he's doing it through books and hands-on learning kits designed for kids.
"I'm just a vessel through my message," Rich says, reflecting on how his journey from the inner city of North Philly led to launching a nationally recognized children's robotics book and product line. What started in 2022 with his debut book, "Diverse in STEM", has grown into a brand with literary and tech-based learning tools. One standout is the HydraBot Toy Robot, an interactive kit that pairs with his bestselling book "Robotic Adventures".
Rich's unique edge? He's not just talking about STEM—he's lived it. "I've been a robotic engineer for the past six years," he explains. "A lot of times when you see someone building something within STEM education, they might not have a technical background like myself." That real-world experience, combined with storytelling, helps young learners "see themselves in STEM."
His approach is deeply personal and purpose-driven. "I have a passion for helping that next generation of kids now really see themselves in STEM and everything they can be."
Rich shared that, thanks to the support of E3 Durham, he is growing his vision while also giving back. "I want to see everybody win within E3," he says with gratitude.
In a world where STEM still lacks representation, Rich Gilliam is changing the narrative—one robot, one story, and one inspired kid at a time.
