University Collaborations

Experiential Learning

2020 Master of Quantitative Management Practicum, Duke Fuqua School of Business

During the spring semester, a team of students in the Master of Quantitative Management program collaborated with the Forward Cities team to develop interactive dashboards using statistics from our Economic Inclusion Indicators. The team produced two dashboards, one for the top 50 Metropolitan Statistical Areas and one for all counties in the United States, that will be featured on the Forward Cities webpage.

Senior Capstone

2020 Public Policy Capstone Course, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

During the spring semester, a team of students from the Department of Public Policy collaborated on a project to assess how organizations have engaged post-secondary students of color, women, and immigrants interested in research on entrepreneurial ecosystems. The project included the development of protocols for structured interviews, focus groups, and a report on best practices.

Internships

2019 Internship in Data Management & Visualization

In the spring, summer, and fall of 2019, we hosted several interns who were trained to work with data from multiple surveys from the United States Census Bureau and data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The interns downloaded raw data, calculated statistics, and created data visualizations for our Economic Inclusion Indicators.

2020 Internship in Program Evaluation

In the summer of 2020, Forward Cities engaged two interns to assist the Director of Research and Evaluation on a systematic review of evidence supporting the efficacy of policies and programs with the goal of reducing inequities in the rate of entrepreneurship in the United States. The interns were trained in systematic review methodology and contributed to the production of a white paper suitable for peer-reviewed publication.
