Over the past nine months, groups of dedicated community members have come together in the five Black Wall Street Forward cohort cities – Charlotte, Durham, Fayetteville, Raleigh, and Winston-Salem – to catalyze narrative change and shape a sustainable model for the future of thriving, equitably invested, and self-determined Black-centric entrepreneurial communities.
On March 30, those change-makers and partners gathered in Durham to celebrate the culmination of the Black Wall Street Forward engagement. The celebration kicked off with the Forward Cities team sharing the history and journey of the BWSF initiative and recognizing the EBIRs, Stewardship Council members, and partners whose dedication and support made the engagement a success.
Guests attended sessions highlighting the journey and accomplishments of each of the cities and enjoyed tours of Penthouse Rooftop and Vault of the beautiful 21c Durham museum, boutique hotel, and restaurant in downtown Durham where the event took place. The celebration concluded with a look at next steps on our path towards designing, leading, and sustaining equitable entrepreneurial communities for Black business districts. We are incredibly proud of the vibrant work that has happened across these North Carolina communities and are excited for the future.
